Jakob's 1st game

Our Saturday was a good one. Jakob had his first baseball game of the 2009 Astros season. It started out as not that great of a game. The other team went up fast on the runs but the Astros never gave up and hung in there the whole time. They ended up tying the game at 5-5 before it was called due to the time limit. Jakob got an awesome hit and actually scored a run. We were so proud of him! His position is 1st base which is a very high stress place but he played it with a smile, a big smile. Andy was the 1st base coach and so I got an awesome picture of the 2 of them. What I did miss was the picture (or better yet the video) of Andy talking to Jakob while he was on base after his hit and Jakob looking at Dad with big eyes and a big smile and saying "okay dad!" with the facial expression of "got it, I know what to do, I made it here didn't I?!" Later that evening we got a pleasant surprise because Landry, Baylee, Laura, and Bryan stopped by. We got to go out to eat with them and visit for a little bit which was nice because with all our schedules we haven't been able to get together with them in a while!
Here's Jakob up to bat right before he got his hit. Hopefully you can make out the smile on his face. It made the whole thing of practices, stress of games, prices of signing up, buying the new equipment, etc. worth it!This was his hit. The ball is already out of the picture and he is fixing to be off to 1st base!I love this picture with the exception of the pole that cuts through the top 3rd of it. However the pole doesn't take away too much from what I captured in this picture. I love it!!!Jakob was really proud of the "impact mark" left on his bat from his hit. He thought it was awesome that you could even see the laces mark. I am just happy that he is happy!!!

Dad and his boys. This was after the game and Jakob was losing interest fast in pictures after pictures. However mom didn't care and was bound and determined to get at least one more.
Naturally mom had to get her picture took with her boys. Although I did fight for a one more with all 4 of us (well as many as it took to get a good one), since you don't see that picture, you can guess correctly that I didn't get my wish. Oh well, maybe next time...or the time after that!

Another day...where's the dollar?!

Well not much has happened that is all that exciting. We have been doing baseball practice, school, and all that fun stuff. We are glad that tomorrow is Friday although it is supposed to be in the 40s and we have a baseball game starting at 7pm! Brrr!!! We are however looking forward to Jakob's first game on Saturday...I cannot wait...he has been doing SO awesome in practice. Well the boys helped me pick out the pictures for this blog so I will just get right to them. Hope you like them!
Jakob had this "thing" about kicking the dog out of her bed and using it for himself. He was only 1 1/2 years old in this picture but VERY strong minded and wasn't afraid of Sweet Pea (Gammy's dog).

Alright this picture Kaleb picked out and Jakob just wanted to make sure he would not get in trouble for the hand gesture. This was taken 7/4/2002 (Jake was only 2 years old) and I assured him that he would not get in trouble. I did however point out that his facial expression fit his hand gesture so well that it did in fact look like he knew what he was doing! Can you guess who this is?
It's Kaleb (did you guess right?) in Uncle Pat's flight helmet. Uncle Pat brought it down on one of his visits and the kids had a blast! What a COOL uncle!!!
Last but not least, this is us ringing in the new year. We watched the ball drop and then of course had to have a picture. We were a little tired and a lot crazy!

Well let's just say don't fall asleep

Well naturally it's been a few days since I last blogged, and naturally not much has happened. We had some baseball practice, a JV baseball game, some work, some house cleaning, some laundry..same old stuff. It's funny how you get so busy and things seem so major but when you actually sit down and start to blog about what you have been up to you start to realize how dull your day-to-day life list is. It's sad...pathetic actually. So instead of meaningless chat, I will just leave you with some pictures in hopes that you will enjoy them. Thanks for following along with us on our blogging journey...hopefully the next blog will be more interesting.
One year for Halloween Kaleb went as a Steer football player and Jakob went as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. I was shocked at how well Kaleb fit in our freshmen football uniform and thought it was awesome how well Jakob looked as a coach...and not to mention how well he had the "coach's stance" down. Gee, I wonder where they have seen this before?
This past football season we actually got to play a football game in El Paso (against El Paso Riverside...we won!) and after the game Andy, the boys, and I stayed with Kevin, Alma, Ashley, and Morgan. That Saturday we went to the base and got to look around, and of course the boys got to see all the "cool" stuff!

October 2008 the boys...Uncle Kevin, Uncle Pat, Uncle Brian, Jakob, and Kaleb.

It's been crazy!

This has ALWAYS been (and always will be) one of my favorite pictures of the boys. It's quite an old one but just look at those adorable faces!

Well I am sure you are all wondering what's been going on since the last time I took the time to write...well you will be so glad you asked. Nothing big has been happening! Now don't you feel better? Friday was 2 softball games (the boys and I didn't go) and a varsity baseball game (we did go to that one). We enjoyed the baseball game, the Steers won! Unfortunately Kaleb and I didn't get home until after 9 that evening and Andy and Jakob were closer to 10 before they got here. Andy had some treatments to do and Jakob had to supervise. Saturday was a work day out at the little league park for Andy and then at 5 there was a varsity softball game. I decided to go because I had been promising the head coach that I would make it to at least one of his games. I did and had a great time. One of our old coaches wives was there and her and I got to catch up on old times. I miss the old crew of wives, it's never the same. Also the Lady Steers won so that was good too! Today has been a cleaning day, we had to spend awhile on the house...it needed it. Tomorrow is JV baseball yet again and Jakob's baseball practice. He has his first game this coming Saturday and so this week of practice will be important!
The boys with their Uncle Jon's Starsky & Hutch car. Aunt Terry and Uncle Jon came down in this car at Christmas. We all had a blast riding in it...and the looks Terry and I got when we were cruising!Kaleb in one of my Steer football jerseys. This jersey number came home with me every week (whether it was the home or away game) because the player that wore it always was putting the hurt on the opposing team and therefore always needed repairs to his jersey. He was a sweet about it he always apologized to me for making me sew it but I assured him the only time he needed to apologize was when he didn't need his jersey mended!Jakob in another jersey I had to mend. This one belonged to Jakob's favorite player, Tyler Chesworth. His mom is Jakob's teacher and Tyler every Friday comes and visits the class. Jakob and Tyler were quite the pair at the dinners after the away games.

Well did you miss me?

Well these last few days have been very hectic. Tuesday Jakob's school called 3 times all before 1:00 and so we picked him up early and took him and Kaleb to the doctor. Turned out Jakob's ear infection was back and they gave him some stronger medicine to try to kick it this time. Kaleb is having an allergic reaction to something and has developed a skin rash...trick is trying to figure out exactly what he has gotten into. You ask yourself the normal questions but with no clear cut answer, we were left shaking our heads. The doc gave him some high caliber triple antibiotic cream, an antihistamine, and some high dose prescription to help with any itching he might have and we are to clear it up then watch closely to figure out what re-triggers it. No problem there...yeah right! Yesterday (Wednesday) I had a dentist appt and for those that know me well, you know the fear that I have regarding the dentist. I HATE THEM! I had my wisdom teeth on the right side worked on and in a month will go get the left side worked on. I am NOT getting them pulled and there is no need to at this point. I have 4 gaps where teeth were pulled while I was in high school so over-crowding is not an issue. I did do good in the fact that I did the whole appointment without the aid of my anxiety medicine. I almost crashed and needed it but I survived. The dentist was so proud of me that he told me I could go dig thru the treasure chest which is only reserved for the patients that do awesome in the chair (who cares that it also is for those under a certain age). I did get the nitro gas and know that I passed out at some point in it but hey it got the job done and the appt didn't last too long. My jaw is still extremely sore and I am still working on being able to open it completely. My jaw pops in and out at times and after they removed the wedge (I promise it was a wedge...you can ask Dr. Ward) I had tremendous pain and could hardly open my mouth for a good solid 24 hours. I know what you all are thinking, Andy enjoyed the quiet!!! But have no fear I am slowly getting back to normal. We had baseball practice again tonight and tomorrow is 2 softball games plus a varsity baseball game. Saturday is varsity softball again and then maybe we can enjoy ourselves for a little bit. Oh well hope you all like the pictures I decided to attack to this one. They are totally random but there are certain reasons why I like each one. Enjoy and I hope you have a great day!
Andy and I got put in the Brig on the USS Lexington this summer. Let me tell you, I would hate to have had to spend much real time in the brig...it was so tiny and even though the door had holes in it and a place to get your food, I still felt closed in. Kaleb took the picture and although you would think that the boys loved the thought of their parents in "lock-up" Jakob had ran off and was looking at other stuff and Kaleb was rolling his eyes that we even got in there, much less got our picture taken. Well I bet that isn't too hard to imagine, it fits them to a tee!
This was at the Rangers Fan Fest that we went to in January. They had a pitching mound in the Coca Cola Kid Zone where you threw the ball and tried to hit a target on the other end while a radar gun clocked your pitch. Kaleb didn't do too much activity because "he's too old" but this one was for all ages and what really floored me about this picture was how grown up he looked. To me he looks like a teenager. Scary...but true.
This was at Jakob's 2nd grade program on Feb. 12th. Jakob had missed a few days that week due to his 1st ear infection so he was kinda lost on most of the movements. He did great though and even performed one of my favorite songs that I hadn't thought about in years from a movie I hadn't thought about in years..."Candle On the Water" from Pete's Dragon. The sharply dressed kid with Jakob is Mason Harrington, his BFF. They have been buddies since kindergarten and those 2 are scary when they get together. The things that come out when they are together are hilarious! They both had picked out their own clothes and as far as I know they hadn't planned to dress alike. I must say though, they were the sharpest dressed boys there!

Day 3 and I'm still at it!

Well today has been busy and even more is yet to come this week. Today we went back to school after our "Spring Break" which was more like the dead of winter from Wednesday on. Not a single one of us wanted to get up this morning and I don't think it is going to get any easier as the week goes on. The boys were doing better tonight at getting in bed earlier and I really thought they were going to go to sleep real quick. Yeah right...the bathroom plumbing had other ideas. The hot water spout shot off their bathroom shower and sprayed the whole bathroom with water. To make matters worse, the wrench got caught when Andy was trying to shut the water off so close your eyes and picture me holding the shower curtain in 3 different places (each hand and one leg) trying to keep as much water in the tub as possible, while balancing on the other leg and trying to reassure Jakob that the loud bang that jolted him up was not as major as it sounded but merely just the wonderful plumbing in the house. Pretty funny picture you have now isn't it!? Andy is still at it, trying to get it fixed enough for tonight but also in such a way that we can have water in the morning for our showers. Little worried to go to bed tonight or even leaving tomorrow without shutting the water completely off, might end up with an indoor swimming pool if we aren't careful. Oh well just another day in the life. Jakob started his baseball practice today...we were glad it started...it can't end if it never starts!

Sunday, March 15, 2009

Well today, the final day of our Spring Break, we got the chance to take the boys to the Science Spectrum & Omni Theatre in Lubbock. A few years back we took them and they loved it and have asked to go back numerous times. We finally had a chance where everything fell into place, the weather was great and we didn't have any ball games. The Omni movie was Sea Monsters and in the special exhibit there was this shark that would eat everything but your head and of course that was perfect for Jakob!
We invited Pa to go with us since Gammy was on her way to New York with Alma & Ashley and we didn't want Pa to have to do any work. I think he had fun, although he was the one that had to move the periscope since it was really hard.
Pa and Kaleb both had fun playing with electricity. Neither one knew I snapped this picture or believe me, they would have moved!
Kaleb & Jakob had a great time playing with all the hands-on stuff. This was something where they could shift the "waters" and make like hurricanes or whirlpools.
Kaleb hated to but he had to eject from his airplane. Actually he hated the thought of having to "pretend" to eject. Mom and her crazy ideas!
Jakob on the other hand was the one who gave me the idea. I just had to convince him that I was not taking video so the thrashing around wasn't going to get him as much as just sitting still and waiting for the camera to take the picture.
Andy and I were there, it's just all my pictures of Andy turned out blurry because he never stood still long enough for me and I of course was the one with the camera. We go back to school tomorrow, yippee, just in time for 80 degree weather all week!

The Start of Something

Okay so I have read and read some blogs and decided that I am jealous and want to try this myself. Let's hope I can figure this out without too many issues. I know there is no way I can do this daily so my realistic goal is that at least once a month I blog something. Honestly I want to update once a week but once I set a goal...I honestly will break it. Not by choice, just by shear fact. Wish me luck and keep checking...who knows, maybe I will have something so interesting that you will be glad I started blogging!
